CHOIR

The St. John's choir, under the leadership of the Music Director, is well known in the community for its tradition of great music.  There is a core group of singers who lead the services musically year round, and others who join us for the special seasons of Christmas and Easter. Djembe, flute, organ, piano, vocal solos and ensemble singing are woven with hymns, contemporary songs and choral music to offer a variety of musical styles throughout the year, and sometimes even within the same service.

The choir rehearses Thursday evenings from September to May in the Georgetown sanctuary beginning at 7:00pm.  Christmas and Easter practices are held during the second half of the Thursday evening rehearsals 6 to 8 weeks prior to special services. The Christmas concert in our Georgetown Sanctuary is traditionally the third Sunday in Advent, and is repeated in the same sanctuary the following evening for the Halton Hills community. Voluntary donations at that concert are given to local charities. Special music supports the worship of Good Friday and Easter Sunday each year.

The choir regularly participates in fundraising concerts at St John's and have sung benefit concerts for such causes as Free the Children, victims of the Myanmar and China earthquakes, and Haiti earthquake victims, with proceeds going to Healing Hands for Haiti,  a charity with local volunteers. St. John’s choir also hosted a joint choral concert with St. Andrews and Knox Presbyterian to raise money in support of a Syrian family’s move to Georgetown.

New members are welcome.  Choir experience and the ability to read music are helpful but not a requirement. You will find a warm group of people ready to welcome you who enjoy singing and socializing.  If you are interested in singing with our choir, please contact the Music Director at music@stjohnsuc.ca
