Our Vision: |
|
In
late June 2005, the members and adherents of St. John's
United Church, Georgetown and Glen Williams endorsed a
new Vision that will significantly transform our church
over a period of 15 years. We are strengthened by the
knowledge that over the 170+ year history of our
Congregation in this community, our worshippers have
met, built, merged and moved as needs dictated. It is
time for us, the current generation of believers, to
lead our church on the next step of its faith journey.
We trust that God will energize us as we take this leap
of faith to discover the new and wonderful possibilities
of Vision 2020. |
|
|
|
In the year 2020:
|
|
St. John's United Church is a spiritually and
financially healthy Congregation whose demographics and
growth mirror that of its community. Our membership
comprises over 400 households or 500 Resident Members
of diverse backgrounds and age groups who live in Halton
Hills and the surrounding area. |
|
|
|
We
are a group of believers who worship regularly and study
continually in order to strengthen our own Christian
understanding and beliefs. This prepares and enables us
to share Christ in word and in deed with others.
Combining this personal development with the St. John's
legacy of community leadership, we focus on the future
by actively living a new revitalized Mission that
reaches out to people across the community and invites
them to join with us to think, feel and experience God
in Jesus Christ. |
|
|
|
Our growing family of believers celebrates and
strengthens its faith throughout the week with a variety
of contemporary Worship and Programming
opportunities that are meaningful to all age groups. We
are led in this experience by engaged and well-trained
volunteers, a Church Council which has as its focus our
vital Ministries, and six leadership staff comprised of
a blend of ordained ministers and lay personnel.
|
|
|
|
The Finances of St. John's are strong due to the
joyful commitment of our members to its active Mission
and Ministries. We worship together in one new
multi-purpose Facility built on 5 - 10 acres that
is conveniently located and acts as a focal point within
our growing community. |
|
|
|
Recognizing that the status quo was not sustainable and
that good Stewardship would not allow it to be
sustained, the Congregation of St. John's made some
difficult decisions in 2005 to secure our future. Our
Congregation subsequently redeployed its existing
resources and contributed 15 years of hard work to
transform our Congregational Culture in order to
achieve the vision we are currently living in 2020.

Change is necessary.
The status quo is not sustainable.
We will value every person and welcome every opinion.
But, we will not be able to embrace every idea.
We will maintain and value core aspects of our worship and
community heritage, while creating new forms of worship and
community life for the sake of newer, younger members.
We will be proactive. It’s not what the future brings to us,
but what we bring to the future that will determine our
course.
We will embrace the Power of One: One congregation,
one
church family, one community, learning how to
be one in worship,
mutual care and common outreach.
We will embrace purposeful experimentation and calculated risk.
We will implement change by addition where practical, and by
substitution where necessary.
We will exercise good stewardship. Duplication of people or
physical assets will not be a priority moving forward.
We will seek consensus where practical and majority rule where
necessary. Our movement forward is non-negotiable.
