Welcome to the family of St. John's!

St. John's United Church has been a community of welcome and spiritual renewal for over 170 years.  We are one congregation with two locations for worship and congregational life: 11 Guelph Street, Georgetown and 533 Main Street, Glen Williams.

Successive generations of people have sought to build community within these walls and beyond by connecting to faith and to one another, by developing gifts and skills, and by sharing abilities and resources widely.

Our current members come from many walks of life throughout Halton Hills and are building an open, vital spiritual community for today and tomorrow.  We know that there is a place for you among us in this life and work!

What do the St. John's logos mean?

The Open Door - It is the Mission of St. John's United Church "to be a community for spiritual growth that welcomes all with open doors, open hearts and open minds".  Our specific image of an open door is used to show welcome, warmth and acceptance to all who want to join with us to think, feel and experience God in Jesus Christ.  Our use of the phrase open doors, open hearts and open minds, as part of our logo, communicates that we are a progressive and open congregation that engages both heart and mind as we explore the questions of life together in a safe and accepting environment.

The Grapevine - The specific image of a grape cluster and vine we have chosen as a logo is taken from one of the many beautiful stained glass windows in our Georgetown sanctuary.  In the gospel according to St. John, we hear Jesus say, "I am the vine and you are the branches... abide in me and I in you... abide... (and grow)... and bear fruit." He also says, "This is my commandment, that you should love one another; even as I have loved you."  Whenever we see the image of the vine and grapes we remember His words.

As members of St. John's United Church, the vine reminds us of the importance of being connected to the story of faith and to one another. The vine's leaves remind us of the growth in knowledge and skill and character that is possible when we take advantage of the resources that flow to us when we are connected. The grape cluster reminds us of our responsibility to convert the resources we receive into meaningful forms of service to others.
